The magical world of dragonflies

On 26 June 2017, the staff of the Public Institute of Krka National Park paid a visit to the Žižula kindergarten in Skradin to hold a workshop entitled The magical world of dragonflies.

Due to the great abundance of dragonfly species within the Krka National Park area, this new educational workshop was created for children of preschool and school ages. Through interesting lectures, children learn all about the dragonfly life cycle, the interesting mating rituals, flight and body structure, and the importance of preserving water and aquatic habitats.

The dragonflies (Odonata) are indicators of the cleanest environment and habitat quality, and are exceptionally important species for the ecosystem. These are invertebrates (Avertebrata) that belong to the insects (Insecta), the largest group in the animal kingdom. The order of dragonflies includes some 6000 taxa. There are about 160 species found in Croatia, and 70 in Croatia, of which 38 species can be found in Krka National Park.

Dragonflies are most active during this time period, and there are many events celebrating these animals held at the international level, including Dragonfly Day, Dragonfly Week and others.
