Krka National Park in Japan

As soon as the main visitor season ends, preparations begin for the next one. Autumn and spring are reserved for numerous world fairs where the park is presented.

Research has shown that visitors from the Far East prefer to select destinations based on the UNESCO World Heritage List, and the fortress of St. Nicholas in Šibenik was recently inscribed on the list, making Šibenik a city with two World Heritage monuments. This have the representatives of the city and county tourist associations and the Public Institute of Krka National Park good reason to head to the Land of the Rising Sun. There the park was presented together with the cities of Dubrovnik and Zagreb, with colleagues from Dubrovnik-Neretva County and Lika-Senj County, at the Tourism Expo, held in Osaka from 24 to 27 October. This is one of the most attractive and most productive tourism events in the world, with exhibitors from 140 countries.

The fair was attended by numerous delegates, including Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to Japan, Dražen Hrastić. Jelena Yamasaki is the person most responsible for the active connections and cooperation between the two countries, particularly in tourism. This warm and enthusiastic Zagreb native with roots from the Drniš area has been living in Osaka with her family for the past 20 years, and is credited with fostering the cooperation between Croatia and Japan in numerous projects, and proved also to be an excellent “host” on this trip. Mrs. Yamasaki is a reliable source of information about the expectations of Japanese tourists when arriving to a new destination, and also proposed many ways of how to attract visitors from Japan to visit Šibenik-Knin County.

In 2019, Krka National Park welcomed nearly 23,500 visitors from Japan, a marked increase over the year before. This presentation of the beauty of Šibenik-Knin County and Krka National Park is sure to attract large numbers of visitors from the Far East, and we hope, will result in new cooperation. In addition to this tourism promotion, we are anxiously awaiting the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, where the Croatian athletes will certainly contribute to the reputation of the Republic of Croatia, with their recognisable passion on the field, and excellent results.
