The National and University Library in Zagreb presented the mobile application Greetings from the Krka River

The National and University Library in Zagreb presented the new mobile application Pozdrav s Krke = Greetings from the Krka River on Friday, the 10th of May 2019 at the Ninth Festival of Croatian Digitalization Projects – D-fest.

The application was created as part of the project The Krka Then and Now, with the aim of developing an innovative digital product linking tourism with the natural and cultural heritage and promoting the beauty of the Krka River as recorded on old postcards from various Croatian institutions devoted to the historical heritage.

Developed for both iOS and Android platforms, this free mobile app serves as a guide for visitors to ten cultural and natural heritage sites on the Krka River, which are also presented through old postcards and contemporary photographs that “overlap”, using the function Nekad&Sad. This gives the application users an insight into the continuity of life on the Krka River and the valuable features that are preserved in the park. The application is available in Croatian and English, and can be downloaded from Google Play and App Store.

In addition to providing an opportunity to discover the history and beauty of the Krka River, the app allows you to send old postcards to friends and family as well as sharing over social networks. The postcards with motifs of the Krka River from the 19th century represent a record of the past times, depicting all the beauty and history of the National Park, as well as a testimony of the universal human need for communication and sharing a moment in time.

The project was developed in cooperation with the Municipal Museum of Drniš, the Scientific Library of Zadar, the photographic archives of the Eparchy of Dalmatia, and the HEP Proizvodnja d.o.o. company, who have all provided the postcards and photographs that are used in the app.

Developed in the National and University Library in Zagreb with the support of the Krka National Park, along with technical implementation by the IT firm Blue Factory, this application is unique due to the combination of old postcards and photographs and the most important factor – the knowledge of storytelling held by libraries.
